Suspects escape but troops seize 7.8 million methamphetamine pills and 50 kg of ‘ice’.
Army troops seized 7.8 million methamphetamines pills and some crystal methamphetamine in Chiang Rai province last night (Friday) but the drug mule managed to flee.
Troops manning a checkpoint on Doi Luang-Wiang Chiang Rung Road in Tambon Dong Mahawan, Chiang Rung district, spotted a pickup truck without a licence plate approaching at about 9.45pm.
The pickup defied signals to stop and sped through the checkpoint, prompting troops to go in pursuit. The pickup fell into the roadside channel about 350 metres into the chase but the driver managed to escape on foot into the dark.
Troops searched the pickup and found the meth pills in 39 bags as well as two bags of crystal methamphetamine.
Third Army Area commander Lt Gen Wichak Siribansop told a press conference this morning that the crystal meth weighed about 50 kilograms.
(Question: Who counts 7.8 million meth tablets?!)
